Transportation Workers may work in the following areas of assignment:

  • Equipment Operator
  • Laborer
  • Mechanic
  • Bridge Maintenance
  • Building & Trade
  • Traffic Control
  • Auto Body Repair
  • Crew Chief
  • Welder

The levels to this apprenticeship are Transportation Worker 1, 2, 3, and 4. As employees gain experience and equipment certifications, they are evaluated on a tier program for hourly wage increases every 10 months until the maximum tier is reached for that classification.

In addition to the standard benefits offered to all employees of the State of West Virginia, the Transportation Workers program offers dry cleaning for uniforms and a boot/tool stipend.
