FAQ & Application Tips

Help us best assess your qualifications by following the tips below.

  • Be sure to include all education and employment history on your application, being as detailed as possible in your job duties. List any heavy equipment, software, or programs used.
  • Training and experience equivalency substitutions are calculated per the formulas in this article.
  • Attach any transcripts, diplomas, and certifications with your applications. Any non-U.S. degrees must have a foreign degree equivalency to be considered. If you cannot do this at the time of submission, you may email them to DOTCareers@wv.gov prior to the posting closure date on the job posting.
  • Information on non-accredited education notices, foreign degree equivalencies, and regional accreditation can be found HERE.
  • If you worked with a company and held many different jobs at that employer over your time there, please list your time spent in each job title as its own entry on your application. For example, if you were hired as a cashier then promoted to manager, you would list cashier and manager as two different jobs on your application.
  • We do NOT accept resumes in place of your information being included on the application.
  • If you are a veteran, please be sure to include your DD214 Member Copy 4 and any other documentation if you are claiming veterans preference points.
  • The State of West Virginia is unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time.

If you receive a rejection notice and wish to appeal, you may request a rerate form within 3 days of receiving the rejection email. You may do this by responding to the rejection email or emailing DOTCareers@wv.gov.
