Looking for a job and not sure where to start?
Career Counselors help identify possible opportunities based on your interests, location, education, and experience.
Please note that due to high demand, we cannot provide an estimated timeline for a Career Counselor to contact you.
If you're looking for entry level opportunities, take our job match quiz below to see possible job titles that match your interests, education, and experience.

Please read our steps below to ensure all required information is provided in your application.
Completing your WVDOT application:
- We do not accept resumes in place of the application being completed.
- Attach any transcripts/diplomas for college, vocational, or certifications.
- Non-U.S. degrees must have a U.S. degree equivalency provided. More information on this topic is available HERE.
- List all jobs you have had with as much detail as possible in your duties, including salary, as the WVDOT only considers paid experience as qualifying towards minimum experience requirements.
- If you held different positions throughout the duration of your employment with a company, list each job as its own entry in your work history. For example, if you began as a cashier then were promoted to assistant manager, each of these jobs would have its own work history entry with the applicable dates.
- Provide your DD214 Member Copy 4 and/or VA letter if claiming veteran preference points.
- If a Career Counselor contacts you regarding your application and advises you to resubmit your application, you will not be able to reapply for the same posting until 24 hours have passed since your initial application.
- We recommend completing the application using a computer instead of a cell phone or tablet, as using either of these devices can cause the application to be received as incomplete.
- The State of West Virginia is unable to provide visa sponsorship or relocation assistance.
- Current or previous WVDOT employees: if the application submitted does not match our personnel records in terms of dates and/or job titles, you may receive an email from Career Services providing the correct dates/titles per our records. Please utilize this information to update your application prior to applying for future positions.
- Emails from WVDOT and GovernmentJobs/NeoGov may be in your email's SPAM/JUNK folder.
- It is recommended to use your personal email address for your account and not your work/school email, as you may lose access to that email if you leave the employer/school. You may change the email used to sign in by going to your account settings after signing in.
**PLEASE DO NOT SHARE ACCOUNTS. EACH APPLICANT MUST HAVE THEIR OWN ACCOUNTS TO APPLY, USING SEPARATE EMAIL ADDRESSES. SHARING AN ACCOUNT MAY LEAD TO REJECTION DUE TO APPLICATION DISCREPANCIES.**
If you receive a rejection notice and wish to appeal, you may request a rerate form within 3 days of receiving the rejection email. You may do this by responding to the rejection email or emailing DOTCareers@wv.gov.
